Election Blog Week 13“The Election” up to Sunday 24th September 2016

Friday 23rd September
The day after the night before – wow, what an amazing 24 hours!

I didn’t just get elected, but I actually topped the poll, which was unbelievable.

A lot credit and thanks has to go to the good people of Onchan and to my support team who were simply fantastic throughout the day.

I only managed to get a couple of hours of sleep for various reasons – the election itself, I was also sunburned and was exhausted and had nothing left in the tank.

That said, was up at 7.30am and despite it being my tenth wedding anniversary, I still managed to get to Manx Radio for 8.15am for a quick interview. Back home for 9am to collect Ellen and I took her out for an anniversary breakfast, which was very nice.

After breakfast we called into the Clerk of Tynwald’s Office to collect my new MHK welcome pack, along with looking around the facilities including the new office for Onchan Members.

Once home I continued to respond to the many kind messages of support and congratulations received since Thursday night. Later on in the afternoon my brother and his wife, Peter and Oraphin, called around and we went for a walk around the Archallagan Plantation, just to clear our heads.

In the evening we went to a restaurant in the south to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the food and service was very poor – so we won’t be going there again!

Saturday 24th September
Still trying to let it settle in, but I am still totally exhausted and it will probably take a few days to fully recover.

Awake for 7am, so I started writing up my election blog and checking all the usual media websites.

Ellen and headed up to Ramsey for breakfast in the Lucky Star, which raised a few eyebrows and friendly comments. After breakfast we went shopping in the street and collected a few supplies in Shoprite.

In the afternoon I met up with a few new House of Keys colleagues, as it is never too early to make a few friends.

My brother and his wife met us at 15.00 and went for a walk along the prom before heading home for tea.

Sunday 25th September
Up and about 9am as Peter and Oraphin were due at the house for 9.30. After breakfast together at home, we then took them to show them around Tynwald and the Keys, which was very exciting.

Got back home for 12 noon in order to listen to Manx Radio’s Sunday Opinion programme.

Pete and Oraphin headed back to Warrington at 14.00.

I spent the rest of my Sunday completing several forms that needed to be done before tomorrow, along with reading through the standing orders.

One more blog next week and then it’s head down to get the job done…
